The 30th Annual Aids Walk Los Angeles took place in West Hollywood Park on October 12, 2014. Thousands of walkers joined the walk in the largest Aids fundraising event in the Southland! Aids Walk Los Angeles is one of the most known and recognizable event in the United States. Many friends and families join the walk to raise money for a better greater hope for raising money to find a cure for aids.
The event kickoff Sunday morning brought an estimate of 25,000 people. It caused many street closures as well. The fundraiser raised about two million dollars before the estimated two-and-a-half-hour even began! Parking was very hard to find, so many of the walkers were adviced to use public transportation. The sign-in took place at 8:30 a.m. Mayor Eric Garcetti and West Hollywood Mayor John D'Amico began the event with a speech at 9:15 a.m. The walkers began to walk at 10 a.m. The walk was 6.2 miles. Celebrity entertainers such as Paula Abdul, Drew Carey, Alex Newell, Carson Kressley, and Michael Herney and a dozen others were expected at the event. Many international school clubs were present at the event, such as Key Club International. Volunteers present at the event helped hand out water, food, and motivate the walkers. The event took over two hours. Walkers crossed the finish line with pride and a sense of completion!
